Policies

The nursery complies with all the statutory and welfare requirements as per Ofsted guidance. The nursery has a wide range of policies, and these are reviewed annually with parents, staff and the committee.

The following is a snapshot of the main aspect of policies, and full policies can be viewed in the nursery

Safeguarding policy

The Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO): Sally Hobbs
Deputy Safeguarding Officer: Debbie Gould

The nursery, its staff, and members have a duty of care, to safeguarding children. If any person from the staffing team/committee has any concerns about the safety of individual children, we will refer the matter to the Safeguarding Agency for further investigation. If you have any concerns about the welfare or safety of any child, then please inform the DSO.

Special Educational Need Policy

Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo): Sally Hobbs

If you have any concerns about your child’s development, please see Miss Hobbs. The nursery actively supports all children, and will set in place strategies to support children with additional needs. The nursery will follow the Special Needs Code of Practice procedures and will work with other professionals to support children accordingly

Inclusion policy

We are hugely inclusive and welcome all children and their families into the nursery. We will actively challenge any comments which are negative towards any other children or their families in relation to the social status, abilities or disabilities, race or religion.

Health and Safety policy

Children and adults are not permitted to wear ‘flip-flops’ or ‘croc style’ shoes in the nursery. This is to reduce the instances of tripping and falling due to inappropriate footwear.

Hygiene and health policy

All families are required to inform the nursery of absences due to ill health. The nursery can then inform other families if necessary of illnesses, such as chickenpox, which may affect pregnant Mums

All cases of sickness and/or diarrhoea there is a strict 48 exclusion period from the nursery to avoid passing on bugs. This includes the staff and adults/siblings of children dropping off/collecting children from nursery

The nursery supports ‘healthy’ eating and will provide a wide range of healthy snacks for children during the nursery session. We ask families to bring in one piece of fruit to go in the ‘snack bowl’ which is shared with the group, as we provide a snack bar, whereby children can help themselves to fruit throughout the morning.

The nursery will take all the necessary steps to ensure dietary requirements and allergies are met within the nursery.

Medications

All prescribed medications or information on illness/conditions must be provided to the nursery, so we can ensure we can provide appropriate care for your child. If your child should require medication in the nursery session, please see the nursery manager, where you will be asked to complete additional documentation

Personal care

All staff are CRB cleared and we have set procedures in place to ensure personal care respects the dignity of the child, whilst securing the safety of children. We encourage children to be as independent as possible.

Confidentiality

If you should wish to speak to the manager or senior staff members in confidence, then a room will be made available. All matters will be kept confidential and only shared with persons with your agreement, except in relation to the safeguarding of children, where we will raise matters directly with the safeguarding agencies as required

Behaviour management

We focus on the positive aspects of children, rather than the negative. We believe that children thrive and learn to negotiate in an environment where they are valued, respected and listened too. However, if behaviour causes distress or potential harm to others, the nursery will apply strategies to support children learn the difference between right and wrong.

The nursery uses a sand timer to help children learn to take turns and share. The nursery will on rare occasions use ‘time-out’ for persistent inappropriate behaviour.

Outdoor play

We are a free-flow setting which means children can play in the indoor or outdoor environments. We play outside in all weathers. Please ensure your child has NAMED wellies in nursery at all times, and that your child has appropriate outdoor clothing in nursery. This must include a ‘shoe box’ filled with a full change of clothing, NAMED sunhats, NAMED coats and NAMED jumpers. The nursery provides shower proof all-in-ones, but we actively encourage families to provide their own set of waterproofs wherever possible.

Please do not send your child to nursery in shoes/clothing you do not want to get painty or muddy, as we actively play outside in all weathers.
